Sunil's Wax Museum

Sunil's Wax Museum

The second wax museum in India, located close to the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Kerala, features 31 lifelike sculptures of famous people from history, politics, sports, and film that were created by renowned artist Sunil Kandalloor. Anyone who has heard about Madame Tussaud's and other well-known wax museums would have yearned to experience the realistic appearance of wax figurines.
The most well-known wax sculptor, Madama Tussaud, opened her first permanent exhibition in London in 1835, but India didn't have its first wax museum until 2000 thanks to the visionary Sunil Kandalloor. Kerala's second wax museum opened its doors in Trivandrum in 2019. The museum is situated in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city, close to the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple.
A carefully chosen assortment
Like the majority of wax museums worldwide, Sunil's Wax Museum also features a collection of sculptures of carefully chosen celebrities and modern figures. There are currently 31 wax sculptures representing well-known people from history, politics, sports, and film, including global celebrities, with a primary emphasis on Kerala and India.
World leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, political figures from the past and present, beloved athletes like Maradona, Sachin Tendulkar, and Virat Kohli, historical figures like Sree Chitra Thirunal, the final Maharaja of the princely state of Travancore, of which Thiruvananthapuram was the capital, and, of course, the icons without whom no wax museum would be complete, including movie stars like Rajnikanth, Mammootty, and Mohanlal.
A dream emerges
Born in the small Keralan town of Kandalloor in the Alappuzha district, Mumbai-based artist Sunil Kandalloor had his fine arts training at the Madhava Fine Arts College. When he first saw pictures of the wax models of Jesse Owens and Fidel Castro, he became interested in wax sculptures. His career began when he made the decision to experiment with his own wax figurines.
He established India's first wax museum in the Kanyakumari district in South India after almost ten years of experimentation, but it was sadly forced to close. In 2000, he relocated the museum to Lonavla, giving India its first wax museum.
One of Kerala's most popular tourist destinations is Sunil's Wax Museum Trivandrum. SREE PADMANABHA SWAMY TEMPLE and KUTHIRA MALIKA PALACE MUSEUM are the closest tourist attractions at East Fort. Lulu Mall Thiruvananthapuram is only 7 kilometers away. Attukal Devi Temple is around two kilometers away.
