Shangumugham Beach

Shangumugham Beach

Situated in Kerala, South India's Thiruvananthapuram district, Shankumugham Beach provides a peaceful haven at a short distance from the busy Trivandrum International Airport. In addition to a choice of dining options and an outdoor theatre with plenty of parking spaces, its long stretch of immaculate white sand and serene atmosphere make it the perfect place for unwinding and lazy evenings. In addition to serving delectable meals, the historic coffee shop next to the beach provides a lovely viewpoint for taking in stunning sunsets.
As the hallowed "Arattukadavu" of Sri Ananthapadmanabhan, the city's presiding deity, Shankumugham also has cultural and religious significance. It is the main site of Ganesh Nimarjan celebrations during Ganesh Chaturthi and draws thousands of Hindus for rituals like "Bali Tharpanam" on special occasions. In addition, idols of Lord Padmanabhaswamy, Lord Narasimha, and Lord Krishna are ceremoniously bathed in the Laccadive Sea during a grand procession that takes place on the beach on the auspicious Arattu day. This event marks the end of the festival amid regal splendour and is led by the now-titular Maharaja of Travancore and his entourage, which includes members of the royal family, armed guards, and temple officials.
Notable attractions at Shankumugham Beach include the magnificent sculpture of Sagarakanyaka, a mermaid that is nearly 35 meters long and was created by renowned artist Kanayi Kunhiraman. Additionally, guests can tour the neighbouring "Jawaharlal Nehru Park of Traffic Signs for Children," which offers a fun and instructive setting where kids can learn about traffic laws while taking advantage of the park's amenities. Thus, Shankumugham Beach provides a diverse experience that appeals to both leisure seekers and art and culture enthusiasts among its natural beauty and cultural relevance.
