Agasthyamalai

Trekkers and conservationists alike are drawn to this UNESCO-recognized summit in the Western Ghats because of its biodiversity, historical trade connections, and religious significance.
The second-highest peak in God's Own Country, Agasthyarkoodam, is tucked away in the Sahyadri mountain range of the Western Ghats. Standing at an amazing height of 1890 meters above sea level, it boasts the richest biodiversity and is still a popular tourist and local destination today. It is situated 61 miles northeast of the city in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram district.
The summit is visible from Bonacaud, which is 22 kilometres distant, or Neyyar Dam, which is 32 kilometres away. Only a few people are allowed to walk up the slope. Before travelling to see this charming peak and appreciate the wonders of nature, one must make sure they obtain a forest pass from the wildlife office in Thiruvananthapuram. Tourists may now enjoy the sights more easily thanks to digital permits.

The significance of the summitAgasthyarkoodam is named for the revered sage Agasthya, one of the saptarishis, or seven celestial sages, who travelled to the south and brought with him the knowledge of many arts that have been ingrained in the very tradition of the south. These arts include the calming and potent yoga and the martial art style "Kalari," which is devoted to both self-defence and full body exercise. He left his mark in a number of southern locations, including this mountain.
Atop this peak is a temple built in his honour, and the 'Kani' tribe that live on Agasthyarkoodam are still devoted adherents of his teachings. In the past, only members of the Kani tribe could assist others in climbing the summit. They still serve as tour guides in the modern era.
In the past, the ancient Tamilian kings frequently used the pathways through the summit as trading routes. The peak was well-known among ancient physicians for its wide range of therapeutic herbs. Due to the growing popularity of eco-tourism and bird watching, tourism in this area is relatively new.
